A Gentleman’s Game

History of Golf

The history of golf is an indistinct and much-debated one. Golf as a sport is believed to have evolved in Scotland in the Middle Ages. Golf, however, gained popularity, much later, well into the 19th century when golf started to be played across the British Empire and in the US. According to recent revelations made by Prof. Ling Hongling from the Lanzhou University it may be surmised that a game similar the golf of modern times was popularly liked and played in ancient China. During the reign of the Southern Tang Dynasty, almost half a century before the Middle Ages, the Chinese are believed to have played golf.
