Thematic Map: African Countries by Forest Area

Adding more thematics maps to our collection, our thematic maps team recently developed thematic maps on Africa, the key focus was to visualize the forest area and arable land in the continent.

Forest Area?
Forests (An area with high density of trees)  in many different regions of the world function as habitats for organisms and soil conservers, constituting one of the most important aspects of the biosphere. Forests are central to all human life because they provide a diverse range of resources, they store carbon, aid in regulating our climate, purify water and minimize risk of natural hazards such as floods.

Arable Land?
Arable land is an agricultural term, meaning land that can be used for growing crops. The amount of arable land in a region, fluctuates due to human and climatic factors such as irrigation, deforestation, desertification, terracing, landfill, and urban sprawl. It is interesting to study the impact of these changes on food production in a region.
